About the Scholarship

The Pettit Center Skating School Scholarship is designed to help make skating more accessible to qualifying families in our community.

Scholarship awards are individualized based on program guidelines, available funding, and class capacity.

Families indicate their preferred class day when applying. Final class placement is determined by Pettit Center staff based on the participant’s appropriate skating level and available class capacity.

Who May Apply?

The scholarship is designed primarily for working families experiencing financial barriers to participation.

For the Fall 2026 session, households with gross income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) may be considered for scholarship assistance.

Applicants must have filed a federal income tax return for the most recently completed tax year. Eligibility is based on household size and total gross household income, including any pre-tax retirement contributions.

Meeting the eligibility guidelines does not guarantee an award. Scholarships are subject to available funding and class capacity.

A Private & Respectful Verification Process

We understand that financial information is personal. The Pettit Center has intentionally designed the verification process to protect each family’s privacy and dignity.

Financial documents are not submitted with the online application.

After applying, families who move forward in the process will be asked to deliver a copy of their federal tax return in a sealed envelope to the Pettit Center front desk. Please do not email or upload tax documents.

The tax return will be reviewed confidentially by authorized Pettit Center staff solely to confirm eligibility. Families should allow 5–7 business days after the tax return is received for processing and determination of their scholarship status.

The submitted copy of the tax return will be securely destroyed following review, and personal income information will not be recorded or retained.

Family Attendance Commitment

Families receiving a scholarship contribute a $24 attendance commitment fee per skater for each six-week session.

When a skater attends all six weeks of the session, the $24 may be applied toward the next session or refunded if the skater is not re-enrolling.

The attendance commitment helps ensure that limited scholarship spaces are available to participants committed to attending throughout the session.

What Does Skating School Include?

Scholarship participants receive the same Skating School experience and program benefits as all registered Pettit Center Skating School participants.

Our Skating School welcomes skaters of all ages and experience levels, from those stepping onto the ice for the very first time to those continuing to build their skills.

Skating School offers pathways in:

Speed Skating • Figure Skating • Hockey

No previous skating experience is required for beginning levels.

Fall 2026 Scholarship Applications open September 1, 2026.

Application & Tax-Document Deadline

Scholarship opportunities and class space are limited, so families are encouraged to apply early. Completed applications are reviewed in the order received once both the online application and required tax documents have been received. Applying does not guarantee scholarship assistance or placement in a particular class.

To be considered for the Fall 2026 session, the completed online application and sealed copy of the applicant’s federal tax return must be received by Friday, September 11, 2026—seven business days before the session begins.
