Basic (Learn to Skate) Classes

The Basic Skills Program teaches students progressively more difficult moves through six levels of skating. Upon completion of the Basic 1 through 6 Program, skaters will have knowledge of the sport enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating.

Some of the skills you will learn:

If a child is skating (or taking lessons) for the first time, the student should register for the Basic 1 class level. Students are evaluated at the first class session to gauge their skill/ability level, and are placed in another class if their skill is applicable.

Basic 1

Sit & stand up, Forward two-foot glide, Forward swizzles, Backward swizzles

Basic 2

Scooter pushes, Forward one-foot glide, Backward swizzles, Moving snowplow stop

Basic 3

Forward stroking, Forward half swizzle on pumps, Moving forward to backward two-foot turns, Backward one-foot glides

Basic 4

Forward edges on a circle, Forward crossovers, Backward half swizzle pumps, Backward one-foot glides

Basic 5

Backward edges on a circle, Backward crossovers, Forward outside three-turn, Hockey stop

Basic 6

Forward inside three-turn, Moving backward to forward two-foot turn, Bunny hop, Forward spiral

Details for 2023-24 Class Schedule

  • Ages 6-12
  • $24 skate rental (if needed)
  • $99 per six week session

20 Min of Exclusive Practice Time Follows Each Class Time…. Online registration will close at 12pm the day before each day’s first class. (Example: Saturday classes close on Friday at 12pm). ALL registrations must be completed online. No on site registration is available.
