High Performance Speed Skating at the Pettit Center

The Pettit National Ice Center is a U.S. Olympic Training Site that supports the training needs of all speed skaters. Located in the geographic center of Milwaukee, the Pettit Center is near a variety of quality schools, businesses and shopping centers. In addition to the indoor Olympic Oval and two short-track training surfaces, the Pettit Center campus features:

• Tommy Thompson Youth Center
Located within walking distance of the Pettit Center, the dormitory provides short term and long term housing solutions for athletes. In addition to rooms with private bath and storage lockers, the dormitory also features a recreation center, coin laundry and full food service (minimum 20 individuals required for food service). The Pettit Center extends a discounted nightly room rate of $75 – for up to six adults or 12 youth per room. For additional information about the athlete services at the Tommy Thompson Youth Center, please contact the Pettit Center at 414-266-0100 x109.

• Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Medicine
The state-of-the-art Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Medicine facility is located just two minutes from the Pettit Center. Froedtert is a sports medicine provider for U.S. Speedskating as well as the Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee Ballet.

Pettit Short Track and New Long Track Development Teams
Now finishing its second season, the Pettit Center's Short Track Team has experienced tremendous success. Not only have the number of team members nearly doubled, the skaters are succeeding on the local, regional, national and international levels. Most notably, Charles Leveille participated as a member of the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team. Interestingly, because the Pettit Center program provides both short track and long track skating opportunities, Leveille was able to qualify for the long track team. Without the Pettit Center Short Track Team experience, Charles would never have realized his Olympic dream. Now he has set his goal even higher: Making the long track AND short track Olympic teams in 2010.

If you have a dream of becoming a short track or long track skater, the Pettit Center program – under the direction of Coach Tony Goskowicz – is the place for you.

Pettit Center Speed Skating Development Teams Feature:

• Experienced Coach – Tony Goskowicz, 1994 U.S. Short Track Olympian and former U.S. National Team coach
• Short track AND long track ice available for training
• Housing in close proximity (walk or bike) to the Pettit Center
• Weight room/work-out facility on site
• Expert equipment maintenance and training
• Elite training program adjusted to meet specific skater needs
