The West Allis Speedskating Club is a non-profit organization that supports every age of skater from four to sixty-four. We have over 150 members and over 70 active skaters. The club focuses on the development of youth, special needs and the feeder program for U.S. Speedskating. Over the past 70 years, the WASSC has been responsible for the development of the top US speed skaters in the country. This doesn't happen without the dedication of many people's time and the support of the local business communities.
Paid coaches, volunteer coaches and skaters train up to 5 days a week, all year round. The people involved in this sport are dedicated to our youth and the development of solid individuals. Several parents also participate on the ice by coaching or learning to skate themselves - making this a strong family sport. Speed skating as a sport creates a positive attitude for all skaters and WASSC creates a positive and fun environment for all of our members and their families.
The West Allis Speedskating Club operates under and as a part of the West Allis/West Milwaukee Department of Recreation. The club is proud of its association with the department and gratefully acknowledges its continued support and cooperation. It has proudly proved to be the foundation for skaters of national, international and Olympic caliber. Since the 1930's, the club has brought the City of West Allis international recognition, claiming over 17 Olympians, more that 50 World Team members and over 95 National Champions.
The West Allis Speedskating Club coaches are US Speedskating or Special Needs certified. Each strives to assure that every skater competes at an appropriate level within their age division. Although a competitive atmosphere is encouraged on the ice, the proper development of the skater's mechanics, technique and style is of foremost importance. Each coach works with a specific group of skaters and encourages each member to participate as part of the WASSC team.
