

The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S Olympic Training Site, recently hosted the Great Lakes Short Track Championships, November 4-5, 2006.
The 2006 Great Lakes Short Track Championships was the 36th annual competition held by the West Allis Speedskating Club and featured 136 skaters from 26 speed skating clubs and 11 states. The competition included 15 mens and womens divisions and crowned champions from age 6- to 60-years-old.
Skaters from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Georgia and New Jersey participated in the competition. Member’s of the Pettit Center’s Short Track Team also participated in the competition.
“We want to thank all the skaters for their participation, as well as the Pettit National Ice Center, U.S. Speedskating and all the volunteers and parents that helped make this meet a success,” said Scott Hinke, meet director for the Great Lakes Short Track Championships.
Coming up at the Pettit Center is the US Long Track Speedskating Championships, which will feature the best speed skaters in the U.S. After the US Championships, the West Allis Speedskating Club will be sponsoring the Holiday Classic long track speed skating competition on December 10, 2006 and then the Great Lakes Long Track Speedskating Championships on January 6 and 7, 2007.
