The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, will play host to Arista Records recording artist Avril Lavigne on Friday, March 5, 2004, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lavigne will play a short music set as well as meet and greet her Milwaukee area fans.
Lavigne’s stop at the Pettit is part of her current promotional tour for her latest single, “Don’t Tell Me,” and her upcoming sophomore release, “Under This Skin.” Fans will be able to meet and hear Lavigne only on a very exclusive basis. Contests are currently being conducted on WMYX-FM (99.1) and WXSS-FM (103.7) for a select, small group of Avril fans to meet their idol. The only way someone can gain access to the special Lavigne session is by winning one of the radio station’s contests.
Lavigne, a native of Napanee, Ontario, Canada, was wowing many people with her voice by the young age of two. At age 16, Avril was focusing much of her energy on singing and writing her own songs when she was noticed by the former head of Arista Records, Antonio “L.A.” Reid. Reid quickly signed the young Canadian to the legendary record label and Lavigne immediately started the creative process on her debut album.
“Let Go,” Lavigne’s 2002 debut was filled with mischievous vocals and a crystal clear voice for a real-girl’s outlook. The first single, "Complicated," managed the not-so-simple task of grabbing the #1 spot on Billboard's singles chart while topping MTV's "TRL" countdown. "Complicated" set the all-time BDS (Nielsen Broadcast Systems) spin record for one week at Mainstream Top 40 with 9,205 spins. "Complicated" went on to surpass it's own BDS record in the U.S. with 9,389 spins, and in her native Canada, Lavigne topped the BDS record held by Madonna.
“Let Go” debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 Album's chart and continues to still sell in great numbers as it goes after the all-time Soundscan record.
