Pettit Center Figure Skaters To Compete At Junior Nationals

The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Site, is proud to announce two figure skaters who will be competing at the 2009 U.S. Figure Skating Junior Championships.

 Ryan Otto, a member of the Wisconsin Figure Skating club, will be representing the Upper Great Lakes region at the Junior Championships after competing in the Intermediate Men’s Freestyle field at the 2009 Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships in St. Paul, Minnesota. Otto placed 5th in the short program and took 1st place in the long program with his combined scores earning him a silver medal at Regionals. Ryan, who is 14 years old, has been skating since he was 5 and trains primarily in Gurnee, Illinois, as well as the Pettit National Ice Center.  Otto, a freshman at Whitnall High School in Greenfield, Wisconsin, is coached by Janel Wamboldt and Katie Kerley.  Isabella Dow, a member of the DuPage Figure Skating Club, also competed at the 2009 Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships in the Ladies’ Juvenile Freestyle competition. Dow placed 5th overall at Regionals and scored a silver medal (2nd place finish) after the 1st round of competition.  Dow, a 12 year old from Pewaukee, trains primarily at the Pettit Center under the direction of her coach Sue Ervin. A 7th grader at Horning Middle School in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Dow is also coached by Denise Meyers.   The 2009 U.S. Figure Skating Junior Championships is the biggest event of the year for Junior level figure skaters and will take place in Lake Placid, New York, December 8 - 13, 2008.  The annual event crowns U.S. Champions in Ladies, Mens, Pairs and Ice Dancing in the first two levels (Juvenile and Intermediate) of the U.S. Figure Skating competitive pyramid.
