Pettit To Host Special Figure Skating Seminar

The Pettit National Ice Center is proud to be one of the few locations in the Midwest to hold the Grassroots to Champions 2009 seminar July 17, 2009, from 8am to 5pm.

Grassroots to Champions is a seminar for all types of skaters that focuses on teaching skaters and their coaches how to progress from recreational skaters to championship caliber competitors. The seminar’s mission is to raise the technical level of U.S. skaters by providing coaches and athletes with proven techniques, the latest technology, and training perspectives to maximize potential in both sport and life.

With the collaborative instruction of Professional Skaters Association master-rated coaches Nick Perna and Sheila Thelen and skating researcher and coaching consultant Trevor Laak, students will receive exceptional, highly credible and very unique instruction.

“It is an honor in itself to be hosting the Grassroots to Champions seminar for the first time at the Pettit. We are very confident that the skaters we house will reap the benefits of this incredible opportunity,” commented Figure-Skating Director Lynn Paulsen.

Skaters who attend will be grouped according to their ability and the seminar will cover a wide range of topics. Topics to include: jumps, off-ice jumping for correct air positions, correct take-off prints and landings, alignment of body positions and how to correctly utilize a jumping pole. Sessions will also cover the Dartfish video analysis program, competition preparation, conditioning a skater’s body to compete at an elite level and creating the total package for competitive skating.

This seminar will include: on-ice skill sessions/rotations, off-ice presentations and demonstrations, a question and answer session with the Grassroots to Champions staff, off-ice skill sessions/rotations and an on-ice wrap up and clinic review.
