Long Track Camp Pushes Into Pettit

The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, will host a multitude of future Olympic hopefuls this weekend with a Long Track Speed Skating Camp. The camp, hosted in part with U.S. Speedskating, will feature Susan Ellis as the camp leader. Sue was a 2002 U.S. Short Track Olympic Team Coach and brings a wealth of knowledge to skaters for this special Long Track Camp.

The camp, which runs December 27-30, 2003, is designed to introduce and reinforce the key principals of proper long track technique as skaters transition to the peak of the long track racing season. Intermediate through advanced skaters will receive intensive work on straightaway and turn technique, race starts, as well as build on skating fundamentals and similarities to short track technique.

A former Olympic speed skating coach, Ellis has coached extensively in Canada on the provincial level and has developed educational publications on speed skating technique. Ellis has also crafted her own camp series entitled “The Ellis Edge”, where she preaches maximum power and speed on the ice through proper technique.

The camp will include over seven (7) on-ice sessions including a short track ice session for long track technique with long track skates. The camp will also include a variety of dry land activities, cover proper equipment set-up, maintenance and video analysis sessions.

The camp is open to skaters of all abilities and ages eight (8) and up. Skaters will be divided into groups based on experience and ability and skaters’ coaches are encouraged to attend, assist and learn as well at the Long Track Camp. Skaters also have the option to commute to the Pettit everyday for the camp and or to stay in Wisconsin State Fair Park’s Tommy Thompson Youth Center dormitory.

There still is space available in this very unique Long Track Camp! To register or for more information on this or any other Pettit camps and programs, please call the Pettit National Ice Center at 414.266.0100.
