Great Races at Great Lakes Championships
The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S Olympic Training Facility, is presenting the 2004 Great Lakes Short Track Speedskating Championships, Saturday through Sunday, November 6-7.
In addition to the Pettit Center, the 34th Annual Great Lakes Short Track Speedskating Championships is presented by the West Allis Speedskating Club of the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District Recreation Department. This meet is sanctioned by U.S. Speedskating, the Wisconsin Speedskating Association and is a qualifying race for not only the North American Short Track Speedskating Championships in March, but also for the 2006 Olympic trials.
The Great Lakes Championships, an amateur level meet, will feature nearly 150 of the top skaters from all over the nation. Last year, skaters came from as far away as Alaska and Florida for this marquee short track event. Wisconsin will also be highly represented with skaters from all around the state taking part in a weekend of great racing action.
Speed skaters of all ages and skating ability will be coming to the Pettit Center for this Championship meet that is eagerly awaited each and every year by skaters in every region of the United States. The Great Lakes event also features entrants in the Special Needs category, making this truly an event for all ages and abilities.
Racing begins promptly at 8:50am this Saturday and at 9am this Sunday, with the Championships wrapping up with an awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon.
