Pettit To Host Speed Skating’s World Cup Qualifier
Wisconsin Olympic Medallists To Participate
The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S Olympic Training Facility, will serve as host for the 2004 Fall World Cup Qualifier, starting Friday, October 22 and continuing through Monday, October 25, 2004.
With a new Pettit track record set this past Saturday (10/15/04) by Joey Cheek, fans can expect high-level competition. Skaters will be vying for a spot on the US Team that will compete in the 2005 World Cup racing series across the globe.
The Fall World Cup Qualifier starts at 10am on Friday, October 22 and will feature many notable names and Olympic medal winners. Some of the male skaters who will be racing at the Pettit include: Derek Parra, a 2002 Olympic Medallist; Verona, Wisconsin’s own gold medallist Casey FitzRandolph; Cheek, a 2002 Olympic Bronze Medallist and local Olympic heroes Kip Carpenter and Nick Pearson.
The ladies field includes skaters such as 2004 World Sprint team member Julie Glass; Jennifer Rodriguez, a dual bronze medallist at the 2002 Olympics; Waukesha, Wisconsin native Elli Ochowicz; as well as multiple medal winner and hometown hero Chris Witty.
Below is a break down of the schedule and events that are part of the 2004 Fall World Cup Qualifier.
October 22 – Racing begins at 10am and will feature both the men and the women racing the short distances of 500 and 1000 meters.
October 23 – Racing starts at 9:45am with the men and women competing in the 500 and 1500 meter races.
October 24 – A full day of Sunday racing will kick-off at 9:30am and will feature 3000 and 5000 meter races.
October 25 – The World Cup Qualifier will conclude with the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races starting at 9:30am.
