Sports Illustrated Tour To Feature State’s Best
The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, will play host to the Toyota Presents Sports Illustrated’s 50th Anniversary Tour on October 10 &11, 2003. The magazine’s silver anniversary party features a football field-sized interactive playground that will bring Sports Illustrated (SI) to life for fans in Wisconsin.
A large part of the tour will be appearances on the Best Buy Main Stage from some top Wisconsin athletes and sports demonstrations from around the area. Friday at 3 p.m. the Milwaukee Wave will be joining the tour for a mini-clinic and autograph session; then at 4 p.m. the Milwaukee Bucks’ Energee Dance team will take to the stage for a performance. The little ninja’s from JK Lee Tae Kwon Do will be kicking and chopping their way to a visually pleasing demo at 6 p.m.
The SI tour rolls on into Saturday with a very special show from Comedy Sportz at 2 p.m. Following at 3 p.m. will be the crown jewel of the tour with Milwaukee Recreation receiving the Sportstown award from Sports Illustrated. There are only 50 Sportstowns in the nation and Milwaukee is proud to be that one city for the great State of Wisconsin. Representatives form Sports Illustrated, Milwaukee Recreation, the City of Milwaukee and the National Recreation and Park Association will be on-hand for the award presentation.
Also on Saturday, former Olympians Bonnie Blair and David Cruikshank will take to the main stage and sign autographs for those in attendance at 4p.m. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Men’s basketball squad will be on-hand to provide hoop knowledge and instruction at 4:30 p.m. The main stage will be filled with oodles of fun and interactive activities throughout the SI Tour that will make any sports fan feel like they have traveled to a “Sports World!”
Once the party has wrapped up outside, the Pettit National Ice Center has a special offer for all those folks that want to take to the ice. For any public skating session on Friday and Saturday, skating admission is only $1. A low, low price for this one big event!
