Sports Illustrated Anniversary Tour To Stop At Pettit

The Pettit National Ice Center, a US Olympic Training Facility, will play host to the Toyota Presents Sports Illustrated’s 50th Anniversary Tour on October 10 &11, 2003. The magazine’s silver anniversary party features a football field-sized interactive playground that will bring Sports Illustrated (SI) to life for fans in Wisconsin and across the country.

The Tour is the key element in SI’s 50th Anniversary multi-media program, which is touching communities across the country with a yearlong nationwide celebration of sports in America. It will mirror state-specific coverage in the magazine by visiting unique sporting events and locations in 25 states from July 2003-July 2004.

“Sports Illustrated will be putting on a big party for everyone to come and celebrate everything sports,” says Cindy Yomantas, the Pettit’s executive director. “Sports fans of all ages will have a blast at this huge one-of-a-kind event!”

Pieces of the SI Tour include Toyota Field, an enclosed theater that will feature films highlighting the greatest sports moments of the past 50 years. The Best Buy “Best Seat in the House,” which will showcase the latest consumer electronic innovations for catching your favorite teams. Starter has also lent a hand with an exhibit profiling the Starter All-American Teen from each state, the Starter/Shaq Dunkman interactive basketball experience and challenges from the world of sports.

The SI Tour will take on a Milwaukee feel with appearances by local athletes, team mascots and performances from the area musical acts in its two-day stop. To celebrate the city’s fine sports life, Milwaukee has been selected as the Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Sportstown for the state of Wisconsin. Milwaukee Recreation will receive the illustrious award at the SI Tour on October 11 at 3pm.
