Pettit To Host Youth Hockey’s Fall Freeze
The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, is set to host some of youth hockey’s brightest up-and-coming prep stars for the Tier 1 Fall Freeze. The youth hockey showcase will start this Friday evening, September 12, leading up to the tournament’s final game on Sunday at 2 p.m., September 14.
The Pettit Center is teaming up with Wisconsin AAA Hockey and the Moes from Winter Club for the Fall Freeze, which is hailed as the largest Tier 1 Midget tournament in the State of Wisconsin next to the State Championship in Madison. Along with games at the Pettit, teams will also compete on the ice at University School in Milwaukee.
“This is the chance for these young skaters to show what they’ve got to the teams they are playing against and also the entire hockey community of Wisconsin and beyond,” said Gino Cavallini, vice president of programming at the Pettit Center.
The best hockey talent in the state will be on display in an all-star setting well before the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association drops its first puck of the season. Teams in the Fall Freeze will include entries from Wisconsin, Illinois and as far away as Alaska. The Alaska Arctic Lions are making the dog-sled trip down to Milwaukee to battle against other top-flight hockey squads.
Tournament organizers anticipate visits from a number of United States Hockey League and North American Hockey League representatives looking for players to fill out their team’s rosters. Scouts from colleges and universities across the nation will also be making the trek to the Fall Freeze to get a look at the young skating talent.
Cavallini continued, “We are going to have the best of the best competing against each other in the Fall Freeze and it should be a great weekend for hockey in Wisconsin.”
