Pettit Adds Tanger To Board Of Directors
The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, is proud to welcome Gale Tanger as the newest member of the Pettit’s Board of Directors. Tanger comes to the Pettit with years of service with the International Olympic Committee, United States Olympic Committee and U.S. Figure Skating.
Tanger currently is involved in many U.S. Olympic initiatives including serving on the U.S. Olympic Committee as the Chair of the Winter Sports Council. She also sits on the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors, is a member of the U.S. Olympic International Relations Committee and is the Olympic representative for U.S. Figure skating. Tanger’s longest tenure comes by way of the U.S. Figure Skating board, of which she has been a member since 1984.
“I feel privileged to be able to live my passion for sports and to be able to serve my community through this marvelous training facility. The Pettit National Ice Center is an outstanding facility where aspiring athletes can train alongside current Olympians,” Tanger said.
Tanger, a World and Olympic Figure Skating Judge and Referee serves in a multitude of national and international positions, competitions and events. Additionally, she has served as the team leader for U.S. Figure Skating’s Olympic, World, Junior World and International Teams. One of Tanger’s biggest accomplishments to date came with the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics when she was named “Assistant Chef de Mission” of the U.S. Winter Olympic Team. A French term meaning Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Gale helped guide a U.S. delegation of over 400 athletes, coaches, trainers and support staff in Salt Lake.
Tanger, a UW-La Crosse graduate and recent recipient of the Graff Distinguished Alumni Award, calls Wauwatosa home and continues her activity with the Junior League of Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Figure Skating Club. Gale was also instrumental in the opening of the Pettit National Ice Center, serving on the Steering Committee and chairing the Pettit’s Grand Opening.
