US Speedskating Added to Pettit’s State Fair Activities

The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, will be hosting the United States National Speedskating Team August 9-22.

The US Speedskating Athletes are training at the Pettit in preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The training sessions will be open for viewing by any and all State Fairgoers, making for another unique experience at the Pettit Center during the 2004 Wisconsin State Fair.

Some of the skaters who are training at the Pettit include 2002 Olympic Bronze Medallist Joey Cheek, 2002 Olympic dual Bronze Medallist Jennifer Rodriquez, 2002 Olympic Bronze Medallist from Brookfield, Wisconsin Kip Carpenter and 2002 Olympic Gold Medallist and Verona, Wisconsin native Casey FitzRandolph. Below are the training times coming up this week for the US Speedskating Team.

Tuesday, August 10 – 8:30am-10:30am

Wednesday, August 11 – 3pm-4:30pm

Friday, August 13 – 8:30am-10:30am

On Saturday, August 14th at 4pm, everyone who is at the Wisconsin State Fair will get to take to the ice with the US Speedskating squad in the very cool “Skate with Olympians.” Skaters will get to meet US Olympians and team members, get autographs and take a few spins around the Pettit’s Olympic Oval.

Remember, everyday at the Pettit there is free Public Skating for anyone with a State Fair Admission. Come and cool off in the Pettit’s “Cool Zone.”
