Pettit Center To Host U.S. Curling’s Best

The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, will be hosting some of the best curlers in the nation on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6 during the 2005 Wisconsin State Fair.

A U.S. curler and coach slated to compete in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games will be among the instructors on hand for Cream Puff Curling at the Pettit Center. Maureen Brunt, who is from Portage, Wisconsin and her coach Neil Does of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, will be on the ice helping Fairgoers try their hand at the 500-year-old sport at 10am on Friday, August 5.

Brunt and Doese are part of Team USA, which won the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling in February in Madison, Wisconsin. This team won the silver medal at the 2005 Women’s World Curling Championship, and is destined to represent USA at the 2006 Olympics (pending final U.S. Olympic Committee approval).

On Saturday, August 6 at 10am, members of the 2005 U.S. Senior Men’s National Championship team will be at the Pettit helping out with Cream Puff Curling. This past season, this team also won a silver medal at the Senior World Championships.

The Senior Men’s National squad includes Dave Russell of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Bill Rhyme from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Mark Swandby of Madison, Wisconsin and David Carlson who hails from Portage, Wisconsin.

Not only will the finest curlers in the U.S. be on display at the Pettit National Ice Center, but also some of the best Wisconsin-bred curlers around.
