Pettit Center To Host American Family Insurance Badger State Games -
Speed
Skating and Men’s Hockey Slated for Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE--- The Pettit National Ice Center will
host
events of the American Family Insurance Badger State Games for the
first
time in 2008.
The Badger State Games, which is the Nation’s largest winter sports
festival, will hold Long Track Speed Skating January 26 and Men’s
Hockey
February 1-3 at the Pettit Center in Milwaukee.
Previously held outdoors, the Long Track competition will become an
indoor
event. The Pettit Center features one of just two indoor Olympic Ovals
in
the United States. In addition to Wisconsin residents, the Long Track
competition is open to skaters from other states whose winter games
don’t
offer long track speed skating.
Olympic Gold Medalist and one-time American Family Insurance Badger
State
Games competitor Casey FitzRandolph is scheduled to appear at the event
on
January 26.
In addition to the Long Track events, the Pettit Center will also host
the
Men’s Hockey Tournament. Teams from across America’s Dairyland will
battle
for the tournament trophy: The Time Warner Cable Cup.
“We couldn’t be happier about our partnership with the Pettit Center,”
said
Ron Vincent, Chief Financial Officer of Wisconsin Sports Development
Corporation and former University of Wisconsin Badger Hockey player. “They
have went above and beyond, by not only hosting us in this world class
facility and helping get the word out, but also by enhancing the event
with
adding the Time Warner Cup and being able to offer this venue to our
participants. We think they will be pleasantly surprised with the
changes
being made for 2008.”
