Children’s Health Education Center Selling Safety Helmets At The Pettit
Center
MILWAUKEE--- October 1, 2007 --- The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S.
Olympic Training Facility, has partnered with Children’s Hospital and
the
Children’s Hospital Health Education Center (CHEC) to offer youngsters
affordable and secure helmets for ice skating.
The CHEC will be at the Pettit Center for a multi-sport helmet fitting
and
sale. Because an ice skating-specific helmet has not yet been designed,
the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission indicates that wearing a
multi-sport
helmet is preferable to wearing no helmet at all.
“We encourage parents to consider helmets for their children to prevent
winter sports injuries,” said Lisa Klindt Simpson, Safe Kids Southeast
Wisconsin Coordinator. Currently, the Pettit Center recommends helmets
for
youth and adult students who are enrolled in the facility’s Skating
School.
The helmet fitting and sale will take place Thursday, October 4 from
5pm –
6:30pm. The fitting and sale is open to the public and no appointments
are
necessary.
The helmets are only $10 and are available on a limited basis in
child/youth
sizes, as well as youth/adult sizes. All ages can be fitted for
helmets and
shown the benefits to wearing a helmet while skating.
