The Pettit recieves a USOC Grant for skating instruction
MILWAUKEE--- August 22nd, 2007 --- We are very pleased to announce that the Pettit Center was awarded a
grant
from the United States Olympic Committee to provide more than 100 inner
city
youth with the chance to take speed skating lessons. Importantly, the
program will teach speed skating utilizing a new curriculum developed
by
U.S. Speedskating and U.S. Figure Skating that does not require
participants
to wear speed skates.
The six-week program is anticipated to begin in mid-October. Classes
will
most likely be held during the day (as part of a school physical
education
experience). The customary Schools on Ice instructor compensation will
be
available with this program.
At this time we are asking all coaches/instructors/skaters interested
in
participating in the program to notify the Pettit Center at your
earliest
convenience. Please provide a) your name and contact information, b)
detailed skating instruction experience and c) other information you
feel
would be beneficial for the program. From the pool of applicants, we
will
select a group to participate in the program and to attend a training
session to review the new speed skating curriculum. That training
session is
tentatively slated to take place in September.
Thank you for your interest in this exciting new program. If you have
any
questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Pettit Center.
