Searching Milwaukee for America’s Next Champion

MILWAUKEE--- July 31, 2007 --- Think you have what it takes to be a Champion? The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Team is searching for America’s best male and female athletes during the Wisconsin State Fair at the Pettit National Ice Center, August 3-5, 2007.

Sled demos will be provided from 1 p.m.- 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 1 p.m.- 6 p.m. on Sunday. Fill out an athlete resume and try out for the team on Sunday, August 5 at 6 p.m. at the Pettit National Ice Center.

The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Team is celebrating its best season ever after winning 39 World Cup and six World Championship medals, along with four overall World Cup titles. On his way to claiming the 2007 overall bobsled World Cup title, Steven Holcomb won ten medals this season. Holcomb will be at the Pettit National Ice center to answer questions about the sports and sign autographs.

“My world is bobsled,” Holcomb said. “I eat sleep, drink bobsled. It’s incredible, and everyone should take this opportunity to experience the thrill of our sports.”

Take a picture in one of our Bo-Dyn bobsleds, try on a helmet, experience the sensation of lying on a skeleton sled, and help support the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Team by purchasing a team T-shirt. Think you can jump higher than the world’s best bobsled and skeleton athletes? Prove it on our vertical jump pad for a chance to win a T-shirt.

You’ll also have the chance to fill out an athlete resume on site for an opportunity to take our national team five-item test on Sunday, August 5 at 6 p.m. in the Pettit National Ice Center. The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton teams are looking for Milwaukee’s best male and female athletes!

“Bobsled and skeleton athletes come from a wide variety of backgrounds,” Holcomb said. “However, what it comes down to is how quickly you can accelerate a 500-pound bobsled or 75-pound skeleton sled in 30-meters. Athletes that show some serious potential will most likely get a chance to push in a World Cup race this year.”

Top performers on the five-item test will be invited to attend a training camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., where athletes are one step closer to making their athletic dream of national caliber competition a reality.

The United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, based in Lake Placid, N.Y., is the national governing body for the sports of bobsled and skeleton in the United States. For more information, please visit the USBSF Web site at www.usbsf.com.
