More Than 1,000 Irish Dancers To Compete At Pettit Center
MILWAUKEE--- July 20, 2007 --- The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S.
Olympic Training Site, will host two Irish Dance Competitions July
21-22,
2007. The Badger State Feis and the Cream City Feis each start at 8:30
a.m.
A “Feis” is a traditional Gaelic arts and culture festival.
The world famous Pettit Center Olympic Oval traditionally is the site
for
Olympic speed skaters to go for the gold. During the summer, the ice
is
removed from the Oval – providing a unique location for special events
such
as this weekend’s Irish Dance competition. Indeed, the suggestion of
the
Pettit Center as a location for the Irish Dance competition came from a
parent whose son plays hockey at the Olympic Training Site while his
daughter competes in Irish Dance.
Families attending the competition will have the chance to join the
Pettit
Center’s regular public skating sessions that will be held from 11 a.m.
to 5
p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
More than 1,000 dancers from throughout the U.S. are expected to
compete at
the Pettit Center. An Irish Music competition will also be held during
the
weekend. There is no admission fee and the general public is invited to
watch the competition.
