Not Just Ice Anymore: Pettit Welcomes Roller/Inline Skaters
During the summer months, the Pettit
National
Ice Center is featuring inline and roller skating on its famous Olympic
Oval. This exciting new activity is possible while the Oval’s ice is
removed
as part of seasonal maintenance.
Inline skating sessions will officially begin Monday, June 11 and are
currently scheduled for weeknights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is
just $3
and individuals must bring their own skates (no marking wheels or
breaks,
please). The 400-meter indoor Oval provides a fun environment for all
skaters – while the cool indoor temperatures are a relief during hot,
humid
Milwaukee summers
One group that has already discovered the excitement of roller skating
on
the Olympic Oval is the Brewcity Bruisers. The Bruisers are Milwaukee's
flat-track Roller Derby League and are comprised of five all-female
teams
that compete locally and around the country in various bouts. "The
Pettit
was a new experience for us and so far it has been fantastic! Our
skaters
come to the Pettit Center because they love the perfectly smooth
surface.
It's ideal for building endurance and staying cool as the summer months
approach," said Jennifer "Jenerous Beattings" Guenther, a member of the
Brewcity Bruisers. "We jump at the chance to skate at the Pettit
Center."
The Bruisers roller skate on the Oval each Monday and invite everyone
to
join the fun. The Brewcity Bruisers will also hold a skate-a-thon
fundraiser at the Pettit Center on Saturday, July 7. This time the
ladies
will cruise around a special track on the Pettit Center parking lot. A
portion of the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Pettit Center.
