Wisconsin Speed Skating Official To Be Inducted Into Hall of Fame
Steele's Dedication to Sport Spans 65 Years - And Counting
The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Site, is proud to announce the 2007 inductees to the National Speed Skating Museum and Hall of Fame.
The Museum and Hall of Fame will induct four honorees on Saturday, April 21 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For 47 years the Museum and Hall of Fame has celebrated and honored those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of speed skating.
The 2007 Hall of Fame Class includes athlete honorees 3-time Olympian Edward Rudolph, Jr. and 4-time Olympian Nancy Swider-Peltz, along with contributor honorees Greta Hall and Jerry Steele. Six-time Olympic medal winner Bonnie Blair will host the inductions.
Jerry Steele, of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, is being recognized for his involvement in the sport of speed skating - a commitment spanning 65 years. Steele is linked to the sport of speed skating in several ways: as a skater, a Wisconsin Speed Skating Association Board member, a club coach and an on-ice official.
"Jerry has dedicated his life to skating. He was one of the first people to help me when I started speed skating, and has supported me throughout my entire career," said 3-time U.S. Olympian Catherine Raney, who is also a native of Elm Grove. "I can't thank Jerry enough for everything that he has done in support of my career, but most importantly in support of the sport of speed skating."
The induction ceremony and dinner will be held at the Milwaukee Hilton City Center at 7pm on April 21, 2007. Tickets are available by contacting the Pettit National Ice Center at 414-266-0100 x108.
