Pettit Center To Host Childhood Leukemia Fundraiser
The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Site, will hold "Skate for a Cure" a fundraiser benefiting The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Saturday, March 24 beginning at 1pm.
6-time Olympic medallist Bonnie Blair will be the Honorary Chair for this event and will be on-hand during "Skate for a Cure".
The Milwaukee Jr. Admirals Youth Hockey Organization will host "Skate for a Cure", which is benefiting Childhood Leukemia research and awareness. The Jr. Admirals' Midget Major team (high school-aged skaters) spearheaded the fundraiser and will be skating numerous laps on the Pettit Center's Olympic Oval to raise money to fight Leukemia and Lymphoma.
The Midget Majors, who were recently crowned 2007 State Champions, saw Childhood Leukemia as a tremendous cause to skate and raise funds for. The team is excited to donate their time and effort to a great cause while they try to advance to the National Championship tournament.
"I think it's wonderful that my nephew and his teammates are getting together to raise money for Childhood Leukemia, since I have a personal interest in the cause with my own sister's battle with Leukemia." Blair said.
Besides loads of laps on the Pettit Center's Olympic Oval, there will a raffle, silent auction as well as an autograph session with Blair at 3:30pm.
Portions of each skating admission will go directly to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, along with all other funds raised as part of "Skate for a Cure".
