Pettit Hockey Team Takes Home Tourney Title

The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S. Olympic Training Facility, is proud to announce the recent success of a Pettit Youth Hockey Team

The Pettit Youth Hockey Mites team (ages 6-8) competed in the Black River Falls Mite B tournament on February 3 to February 5. The team put forth a tremendous effort throughout the weekend by out-shooting their opponents 54-9 in 3 games en-route to taking home the tournament championship.

The Mites opened the tournament with an 8-0 shut-out victory over Sparta on Saturday. The team took the ice again on Saturday night and walked away with an 8-3 victory over tourney host Black River Falls. After taking care of the home team, the Mites moved on to a championship match-up on Sunday morning vs. Waunakee. The Pettit team started out quickly in the championship game and never looked back as they brought home 1st Place with a 10-3 victory.

The Pettit National Ice Center and its staff congratulate the following for a fine showing in Black River Falls: Alex Hayek of Wauwatosa, Ted Aiken of Whitefish Bay, Levi Geisness from Waukesha, George Rajak of Greenfield, David Burton of Milwaukee, Logan Friedl from Oak Creek. Logan Geisness of Waukesha, Brady West from Muskego, Aaron Nowak of Franklin, Rachael Lowe from Wauwatosa and Scott Pelkowski-Milwaukee. The Mites are coached by Pettit Center Hockey DirectorTom Zienkiewicz and Bill Geisness.

“It was the first tournament experience for all of the kids and we couldn't have asked for better results,” said Coach Zienkiewicz. “The kids played outstanding as a team and clearly enjoyed themselves throughout the weekend. I look forward to even more fun and many successful tournaments with this young squad.”

They may be young, but these Pettit Mites are a force on the ice and have a lot of fun while playing. Congratulations and good luck in the future to all skaters and coaches.
