Seniors Celebrate 15 Years Of Skating At Pettit Center

The Pettit National Ice Center, a U.S Olympic Training Site, is very proud to announce the 15 th anniversary of the Senior Skaters of Milwaukee.

Back in February 1993 when the Pettit Center opened its doors, one of the first individuals to ask to skate was Sybil Winter.   Sybil approached the Pettit Center with the intent to begin a weekly seniors-only skating session, using music from the '30s and '40s.   After thousands of laps around the Pettit Center's rinks, the senior skating session is still going strong.

Every Tuesday at 10am from September through May it's seniors-only at the Pettit Center.   Skaters ranging in age from 50- to 93 take to the world-class ice for a session

"I thought this would help seniors stay active after retirement," says Sybil Winter, originator of the Senior Skaters of Milwaukee.   "I love the people I have met here and relish the strong bonds of friendships we have formed on ice.   Many people have told me that they have become healthier because they skate each week.   It shows that age means nothing when you are skating and having fun together!"

Many of the seniors tout the health benefits of skating as a reason why they visit the Pettit Center each week.   Ice skating helps maintain balance, is a great aerobic exercise and also is easy on muscles and joints.

Senior Skater Celebrates 94 th Birthday

Also commemorating a milestone at the Pettit Center's is George Skwierawski.   Skwieraski will celebrate his 94 th birthday at the Pettit Center during the Senior Skating session on Tuesday, February 13, 2007.

Join the seniors on February 13, 2007 at 10am to celebrate 15 years of skating and the birthday of the eldest member of the club.
